Does anyone know how to ID this tranny? I just bought a swap that came with a tranny attached to a low mile d15z1, but I have a feeling it's not the highway friendly VX tranny.
Thanks for your help!

should say s20 on it, which is also the same stamping as the 92-95 civic dx/lx/ex/si tranny. only difference between them is that it has a 3.25 final drive. hope that helps

Well I'm not 100% sure on how trannys and gearing work but i am going to say that the final drive makes a huge difference...Dans VX has huge space btween gears so if 1-4 are the same gears as the other trans the only difference is the FD and being able to do what is it Dan like 55 in 2nd gear is a big difference from the EX/Si trans...
I'd say if you are turbo or not get the closest gear trans you can, I've read debates on this for a while now and thats the best advice you want to accel fast so get the trans that can do that, for B series people say the LS trans is best for turbo but it seems to be the longer gears just gives you a better chance of getting traction off the line but the B16/GSR will be better if you can get traction off the the line...I had read something a while back about a car making over 500whp ran maybe .1 quicker with the hydro LS trans compared to the b16 but only because of traction...i think they just switched to larger slicks and make up the differenece...
Ok sorry i thread jacked :-p
