For all you saturn nuts, I finally saw a commercial for this thing today. I think it looks better than the Pontiac Solstice.

"For Saturn, the sky is not the limit. It's just the beginning."

2007 Saturn Sky
by Jim McCraw, NewCarTestDrive.com
On Sale: Early 2006
Expected Pricing: Starting below $25,000

A two-seat roadster is about as far from the original basic-transportation-for-small-money charter of the original Saturn Corporation as you can get, but Saturn is taking a deliberate turn upmarket with this Sky roadster and the coming Aura sedan.
Saturn is no longer a separate company from GM the way it was, and all of its future products will be built on one of GM's platforms from around the world. In the case of the Sky roadster, it is built on GM's small rear-drive Kappa platform that so far is shared only with the coming Pontiac Solstice roadster.

The platform has everything it takes to be a successful fun roadster, including 245-series 18-inch tires and wheels, coil-over Bilstein monotube shock absorbers, rack-and-pinion power steering, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, hydraulic engine mounts to calm down engine vibrations, and near 50/50 weight distribution. The platform features a structural central tunnel design, and it is the first platform to use both hydroformed longitudinal frame rails and hydroformed body panels. Hydroforming, bending steel with water pressure, makes for a very stiff but lightweight chassis that results in greater vehicle response and better handling, says GM.

The simple mechanical top mechanism stows away in the trunk under the decklid with those slick headrests built in, and is held in place with a single twist latch in the windshield frame and two pins on the body. GM puts the Sky's weight at about 2860 pounds.

The Saturn Sky was inspired by the GM Vauxhall VX Lightning concept created at GM's Advanced Design Studio in Birmingham, England, which is why it looks so completely un-Saturn, with lots of chrome in the grille, lots of brightwork in the interior, and a definite European flavor. It will be built at the company's Wilmington, Delaware plant starting in 2006.

Engine is the 170-hp 2.4L 16-valve 4-cylinder Ecotec Engine with Variable Valve Timing, which "delivers 90% of its 162 ft. lbs. of torque at as low as 2400rpms." Choice of a short-shift 5spd manual or a 5spd automatic.

Motortrend says they expect a 2.2L supercharged version shortly after launch.

Does it say the Sky is going to be FWD? I thought it was Kappa, therefore RWD. A FWD Roadster would be stuuupid.

Well, we are talking about Saturn here.

I'm not much of a roadster person to begin with but I wouldn't buy it because it has a Saturn logo on it.

Read the artricle, its off of the RWD Kappa platform

and to say you would never consider it because of the badge is foolish. It seems like it would be a decent roadster, we wont know till it starts to get tested and sold but saying no because its from a make thats known more for economy than for sport. I can think of a few companies that went from economy to sport.. honda maybe??

I have a saturn adn I got it for dirt cheap because I was broke, I wasnt stupid enough to rice it out, but I kept it for its amazing MPG and how surprisingly good of an econobox it was. I guess im trying to say dont knock it till you try it :finga:

Not all saturns are FWD..they should make it awd...because that would be the different thing to do.

I don't mind the badge i was saying buy the pontiac because i heard that version would be rwd and not fwd.. hey if i am wrong and this is rwd sweet then i like it even more and yes i would take a saturn over a pontiac. I have just heard in alot of places the sky will be fwd if i am wrong good.

Alright people.

Unless you get the FI version of this boat, you're not going to move.

Wait for the FI one.

No, the panels are not dent resistant. GM shutdown Saturn's main and fired a lot of the heads, so Saturn is nothing but part of GM's monopoly. It's solid steel and pushing 3000lbs. It's the start of GM's full corporate takeover. (You saw when GM originally took over the addition of the Vue, Ion's and the axe of the S-series and L-series...the L being the RWD platform, 2 of the better platforms that saturn has had, being fully independant suspensions.)

This car's been in the makings for awhile. And the solstice looks like ass in comparison.
